Apparently, her son Lubbertus is sitting to Dirkje's left. Dirkje was married to a widower with children. Perhaps some of them are standing behind her.

Lubbertus was van de lichting 1913. Toen in 1914 de eerste wereldoorlog uitbrak werd hij gemobiliseerd en dat duurde tot in oktober 1919.
